‘MY LIFE WITH A NEW FACE’

DOCUMENTARY FILM | BBC NEWS | DIRECTOR AND EDITOR | 2022

Robert Chelsea sustained third-degree burns on more than half of his body when his car was hit by a drunk driver. In 2019, he became the first ever African American recipient of a full-face transplant. This is story of his recovery, a remarkable test of faith, identity and character.

Director’s Note: This 30-minute TV documentary aired sixteen times on the BBC News channel. A 23-minute radio documentary produced by the BBC’s Ben Davis aired five times on BBC World Service– it’s a completely different experience hearing the story in sound. I edited a 22-minute digital documentary for BBC Reel and Youtube, a 12-minute version for the BBC News website, and a 7-minute, mobile-first version for the BBC’s exclusive Facebook Watch show, Cut Through the Noise.
