‘MY 26-YEAR FIGHT TO PROVE MY INNOCENCE’

DOCUMENTARY FILM | BBC NEWS | DIRECTOR AND EDITOR | 2022

Elation greeted Dontae Sharpe as he walked out of prison a free man, 26 years after being wrongly convicted of murder. But proving his innocence was only the first step on a long road. As he tries to rebuild his life, there's still one thing eluding him.

Director’s Note: This film aired sixteen times on the BBC News channel and was published on the BBC’s Youtube channel. I edited a 17-minute digital documentary for the BBC News website and a 6-minute, mobile-first version for the BBC’s exclusive Facebook Watch show, Cut Through the Noise. Two months after the documentary aired, the Governor of North Carolina granted Dontae Sharpe a full pardon.
